Costco (425-313-8100) will open two locations in the St. Louis, MO area. The first warehouse-style location will open in St. Peters, MO with the second store located near Interstates 55 and 270 in south St. Louis County. The company will not open a third area store at Lincoln Place Shopping Center in Fairview Heights, IL as originally planned. Costco operates 240 locations in the U.S.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (310-237-2378 ext. 279) announced that it will open its first stores in Las Vegas, NV this summer. The company signed an agreement for development of 20 Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf branded specialty coffee and tea retail stores in NV over the next five years, with a concentration in the Las Vegas market. The company operates 150 company owned and operated stores.
D & M Restaurant Enterprises (770-252-4342) doing business as Texas Roadhouse is opening a 6,000 sq.ft. to 7,000 sq.ft. location in North Lake Crossings, in Columbus, GA in mid-June. Home Depot (770-433-8211) purchased eight acres on North Cicero Avenue in Chicago, IL for the construction of a new home improvement store. The property is the former home of Ekco Products. The company will not build a store on the site of the former Castlegate Hotel in northwest Atlanta, GA. The site located at the intersection of Howell Mill Road and Interstate 75 was deemed to have too many costs associated with it.
Apple Computers (408-996-1010) will open an Apple Store in Chicago, IL. The company has signed a lease for 33,000 sq.ft. at a former Gap location on Michigan Avenue. The store is scheduled to open spring 2002.
Borders Books And Music (734-477-1100) announced it will open a 23,500 sq.ft. store in the Southridge Mall in Greendale, WI. Scheduled to open in August, it will be the second Borders to enter the Milwaukee area. Borders Group operates 335 Borders domestic superstores, 14 international Borders stores, 31 Books etc. locations and 869 Waldenbooks stores.
Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is purchasing the former Montgomery Ward store at Huntington Beach Mall in Huntington Beach, CA and plans to convert it into a Great Indoors. The store is slated to open next spring. The company is also purchasing a former Ward location in the Pueblo Mall in Pueblo, CO. The locations are two of 18 Wards that Sears is buying nationwide. Four will be converted to Great Indoors. Sears currently operates four Great Indoors locations, and plans to open 10 this year.

Dillards, Inc. (501-376-5200) purchased four former ZCMI stores from The May Department Stores Co. The stores are slated to open immediately. The four stores include a 125,000 sq.ft. space in Idaho Falls, ID; a 123,000 sq.ft. space in Pocatello, ID; a 61,000 sq.ft. location in Logan, UT and a 40,000 sq.ft. location in St. George, UT.

In fiscal year 2001, the company opened 62 units and relocated or expanded 10 stores. The company will open a 45,000 sq.ft. store in Manalapan, NJ on the site of a former Grand Union store. The 419-unit chain operates nationwide.
