Permission to build an access road will determine whether or not the store is built. The company operates 134 combination grocery and retail stores in MI, IL, IN and OH.

Cheesecake Factory (818-880-9323) will open its first location in Seattle, WA adjacent to the Elliott Hotel. The upscale restaurant chain operates 25 locations nationwide.
24-Hour Fitness, Inc. (800-432-6348) plans to open 80 locations in 2001. The 312-unit fitness center chain often occupies former movie theater and department store sites.
Costco (425-313-8100) will open two locations in the St. Louis, MO area. The first warehouse-style location will open in St. Peters, MO with the second store located near Interstates 55 and 270 in south St. Louis County. The company will not open a third area store at Lincoln Place Shopping Center in Fairview Heights, IL as originally planned. Costco operates 240 locations in the U.S.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (310-237-2378 ext. 279) announced that it will open its first stores in Las Vegas, NV this summer. The company signed an agreement for development of 20 Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf branded specialty coffee and tea retail stores in NV over the next five years, with a concentration in the Las Vegas market. The company operates 150 company owned and operated stores.
D & M Restaurant Enterprises (770-252-4342) doing business as Texas Roadhouse is opening a 6,000 sq.ft. to 7,000 sq.ft. location in North Lake Crossings, in Columbus, GA in mid-June. D & M is a franchisee of Texas Roadhouse LLC, which has more than 80 restaurants primarily in the midwest and southeast.
Home Depot (770-433-8211) purchased eight acres on North Cicero Avenue in Chicago, IL for the construction of a new home improvement store. The property is the former home of Ekco Products. The company will not build a store on the site of the former Castlegate Hotel in northwest Atlanta, GA. The site located at the intersection of Howell Mill Road and Interstate 75 was deemed to have too many costs associated with it.
Apple Computers (408-996-1010) will open an Apple Store in Chicago, IL. The company has signed a lease for 33,000 sq.ft. at a former Gap location on Michigan Avenue. The store is scheduled to open spring 2002.
Borders Books And Music (734-477-1100) announced it will open a 23,500 sq.ft. store in the Southridge Mall in Greendale, WI. Scheduled to open in August, it will be the second Borders to enter the Milwaukee area. Borders Group operates 335 Borders domestic superstores, 14 international Borders stores, 31 Books etc. locations and 869 Waldenbooks stores.
Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is purchasing the former Montgomery Ward store at Huntington Beach Mall in Huntington Beach, CA and plans to convert it into a Great Indoors. The store is slated to open next spring. The company is also purchasing a former Ward location in the Pueblo Mall in Pueblo, CO. The locations are two of 18 Wards that Sears is buying nationwide. Four will be converted to Great Indoors. Sears currently operates four Great Indoors locations, and plans to open 10 this year.
Winn-Dixie (904-783-5000) plans to add 60 new stores during the coming 18 months, including 10 to 12 in the Carolinas.
Ross-Simons (401-463-3100) is opening a 2,600 sq.ft. discount store at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets in Providence, RI. The company currently operates 11 retail stores in eight states, including two outlet stores in ME.
Dillard’s, Inc. (501-376-5200) purchased four former ZCMI stores from The May Department Stores Co. The stores are slated to open immediately. The four stores include a 125,000 sq.ft. space in Idaho Falls, ID; a 123,000 sq.ft. space in Pocatello, ID; a 61,000 sq.ft. location in Logan, UT and a 40,000 sq.ft. location in St. George, UT.
Reeds Jewelers, Inc. (910-350-3100) plans nine new stores before the Christmas holiday season, including its entry into LA and MO. The company currently operates 115 stores in 19 states primarily in the southeast and midwest.

The company also plans to build its fifth location in the Colorado Springs, CO market southeast of Baptist Road and Jackson Creek Parkway, east of Interstate 25. The 183,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open early spring 2002.
Mimi’s Cafe (714-544-4826) opened its 51st location in Long Beach, CA. The company plans to open eight to 10 restaurants in the western states in 2001. Typical locations are 6,500 sq.ft.
Chicken Kitchen Corporation (305-774-9700) has eight franchise units in various stages of development and construction. The company currently operates four Chicken Kitchen restaurants and six franchises in the southeastern U.S.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (336-725-2981) has signed a franchising agreement to allow Freedom Rings, LLC to open 16 locations over the next five years in Philadelphia, PA, NJ and DE. The company retains a 70% interest in the project. The company will open two Wichita, KS locations in the coming 18 months. The first will be located at the intersection of Rock Road and Central Avenue, with the second at 21st Street and Tyler Road. Krispy Kreme operates 177 units in 28 states.

The department store will tenant a 149,000 sq.ft. space in the project located just off of Interstate 40. The company will open a 120,000 sq.ft. store at University Mall in Orem, UT. The company operates 122 stores in 24 states.
Diamond.com (888-342-6663) will open its flagship store in Manhattan, NY. The company had $30 million in internet sales last year and has international diamond trading company, The Steinmetz Company, as a majority owner.
Best Buy (952-947-2000) will open a 30,000 sq.ft. store in Canyon Springs, CA. The store will be located south of Highway 60 at the Day Street off ramp. The unit is scheduled to open in spring 2002. The company plans to open 60 stores in the coming fiscal year, including 20 smaller market stores such as the Canyon Springs, CA location. The company plans to relocate seven stores this fiscal year. In fiscal year 2001, the company opened 62 units and relocated or expanded 10 stores. The company will open a 45,000 sq.ft. store in Manalapan, NJ on the site of a former Grand Union store. The 419-unit chain operates nationwide.
Chick-Fil-A (404-765-8000) will open 61 units in 2001, 55 of those will be freestanding units. The 960-unit chain operates about half of its locations in malls. An outparcel freestanding location will open at Creekwood Crossing located on State Road 70 just west of Interstate 75 in East Manatee, FL.
One Price Clothing Stores (864-486-6210) will open seven stores and remodel or relocate 10 stores in 2001. The apparel retailer opened 44 stores during 2000. The company operates 641 locations in 30 states.
FAO Schwarz (212-644-9400) will open a 25,000 sq.ft. flagship store at The Grove at Farmers Market in Los Angeles, CA. The two-story store is scheduled to open spring 2002 at the center located at the intersection of Third and Fairfax Streets. The company operates 43 stores nationwide.
