Who's Opening & Where Demos’ Steak & Spaghetti House (615-848-1777) will open its third restaurant at the Legends Place Shopping Center in Lebanon TN. The site is located on U.S. Highway 231 North near the Wal*Mart Superstore and will join the chain’s other two restaurants in Murfreesboro and Nashville TN. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Inc. (970-259-0554) will open nine stores during the remainder of the fiscal year. The company has opened 15 stores year to date including four stores in its new prototype. The new prototype stores are located in Redondo Beach CA; Orange CA; Duluth MN and Tampa FL. Four of the nine planned stores will be in the new prototype and located in Columbus OH; Atlanta GA; Valencia CA and Broomfield CO. The company operates 235 units nationwide. Bogart Golf (425-452-9836) opened three locations in the Atlanta GA metro area. An additional four stores are expected to open in the each of the following markets: Houston TX; Denver CO and New York NY. The company operates 11 locations in GA TX and WA. The supermarket chain is rumored to be considering anchoring the proposed Davis Commons located at the intersection of Davis Drive and Morrisville-Carpenter Road in Morrisville NC. Other sites the company is considering include a 47 000 sq.ft. space at Harrison Pointe Shopping Center in Cary NC and a 42 000 sq.ft. space adjacent to Lowe’s Home Improvement at Knight’s Plaza in Knightsdale NC. The company is owned by Royal Ahold and operates 285 locations in the southeastern states.Baja Fresh (805-495-4704) will open a location at Thoroughbread Square in Cool Springs TN. The company opened its first Nashville TN-area unit located on West End Aveune in Nashville late last month. The new owners are looking to franchise the operation nationwide. Restaurant Entertainment Group (404-250-9536) plans to reopen the Pleasant Valley 7 in Raleigh NC. The site is located on Glenwood Avenue and previously was owned by General Cinemas. The closing was part of nine smaller theaters that closed in the Triangle market. Restaurant Entertainment Group operates 27 Cinema Grill locations nationwide featuring a full menu restaurant-theater combination.Shoe Carnival (812-867-6471) plans on opening five more stores by the end of the year. The retailer has opened a total of 18 stores this year in OH TX IN KS GA MO and IL and operates 170 footwear stores in the South and Midwest. ExxonMobil Corporation (301-222-0274) opened a 3 800 sq. ft. On The Run store in Charlotte NC. The company plans to open 30 to 40 in each of its existing markets. The On The Run store concept features both a convenience store and coffeehouse.The Pantry (919-774-6700) plans to open an additional 50 stores this year. The convenience store chain will increase its net store count primarily via acquisitions in Mississippi and Louisiana. The retailer expanded to 145 locations last year. Sunoco (215-977-6309) projects new unit openings at between 20 and 40 gasoline outlet locations this year in nine eastern states. The convenience store chain operates 1 286 stores in IL IN IA KS MN MO NE SD and WI.O’Reilly Automotive (417-862-3333) plans to expand into Memphis and Nashville TN within the next two years. The chain acquired Mid-State Automotive Distributors Inc. and its 85 stores primarily located in TN. Kiel Brothers Oil Co. (812-373-5542) anticipates building two units by the end of the year to bring its total number of stores to 214. The company operates Tobacco Road convenience stores in IL IN and KY. Shaw’s Supermarkets (508-378-3020) will open a 57 235 sq. ft. flagship store at the Prudential Center in Boston MA in Fall 2002. Shaw’s Supermarkets operates 185 stores in ME MA NH RI CT and VT. Victoria’s Secret (614-415-7454) will open a new location on West 34th St. in New York City NY. The 25 000 sq. ft. space will feature lingerie and beauty products. The company has nearly 2 400 stores under the names Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works. McDonalds (630-623-3000) will open a new location in the Hawthorne district of Portland OR. The company operates about 29 000 restaurants in 121 countries worldwide. There are 12 800 locations in the US. The Vitamin Shoppe (201-866-7711) opened two stores in Duluth and Buckhead GA and 13 stores in FL. The vitamin retailer plans to open additional stores throughout the Atlanta GA market. The apparel retailer plans to open two stores per year under the company’s moderate growth plan. The company operates 44 stores in 17 states.Swifty Serve (919-479-3003) plans to open at least 40 stores annually for the next several years. The convenience store chain operates 630 stores in seven southeastern states under the names Swifty Serve E-Z Serve Swifty Mart Country Cupboard Time Saver Majik Market Pepco Sav-a-Thon Townstar and Sunshine Jr. Verizon Wireless (908-306-7000) will open stores near the Magic Valley Mall in Twin Falls ID and in the Boise Town Square Mall in Boise ID this year. The wireless communications retailer will have doubled its presence to six stores in UT and operates over 1 400 locations nationwide. Factory 2-U Stores Inc. (858-627-1800) expects 2001 year openings to be at the low end of its announced projections of between 46 and 53 stores. The company currently operates 263 stores in 10 states and blames delays with developers for the short projection.Christopher & Banks Corporation (763-551-5000) will open approximately 90 stores within the next year.
