Who's Opening & Where

Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. (757-321-5000) is planning to grow its retail selling square footage by 22%. Most of the growth should occur during the first three quarters. The company currently operates 2,263 stores throughout 40 states.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse at the intersection of Kingsley Avenue and Blanding Boulevard in Clay County, FL. The store could open at the former Publix supermarket in the Kingsley Square shopping center. The company currently operates more than 800 stores throughout 43 states. Overall, the company plans on opening 130 stores this year.

The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open two Expo Design Center stores this year, including one in Cleveland, OH and one on the West Coast. The company also will remodel some of its existing 52 stores, including the one near the Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, GA. By 2005, the company plans on having 200 Expo Design Center stores. Also, Home Depot is planning to open 50 stores in the Northeast over the next several years. The company currently operates 160 stores throughout the Northeast.

Wendy’s International, Inc. (614-764-3100) is planning to open a restaurant at the intersection of Dishman Lane and Russellville Road in Bowling Green, KY. The company also is planning to open a location in Spring Hill, TN.

Casa Grille (260-490-4745) is planning to open a location at the intersection of Stellhorn and Maplecrest Roads in Fort Wayne, IN. The company currently operates four locations, including Casa D’Angelo at 3402 Fairfield Avenue, Casa! Ristorante at 7545 West Jefferson Boulevard, Casa Mare at 4111 Parnell Avenue and Casa Grille at 411 East Dupont Road.

McDonald’s Corp. (630-623-3000) is planning to open a fast-food restaurant at the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and Fairfield Avenue in Fort Wayne, IN.

Stein Mart (904-346-1500) is planning to open a store in the Pavilions at Hartman Heritage Center located at 20000 East Jackson Drive in Kansas City, KS. The company also has considered opening a store at the Lionsgate Marketplace located at the intersection of 143rd Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, KS.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter and a Sam’s Club at a center located on Military Road in Niagara, NY. The company is planning to open both stores by the end of the year. The company also plans to open a total of 1,600 stores over the next five years. Already, a third Wal*Mart Supercenter is planned for Rochester, NY and two more are planned for the Syracuse, NY area.

Duane Reade, Inc. (212-273-5700) is planning to open 17 to 22 stores this year, including three carryover stores originally planned to open in December last year. Capital spending is planned to be approximately $40 million to $45 million to grow the business and renovate select stores.

Claim Jumper Restaurants (994-756-9001) is planning to open a restaurant in the Fresno/Clovis, CA area. The company currently operates 30 restaurants throughout the west, with the most recent opening in Scottsdale, AZ. The company also has restaurants under construction in Costa Mesa, CA and in Las Vegas, NV. Both are expected to open this year.

Walgreens Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open a drug store at the intersection of Route 14 and Route 22 in Fox River Grove, IL.

Gabriel Brothers, Inc. (304-292-6965) is planning to open 24 Rugged Wearhouse stores and three to four Gabriel Brothers locations this year. The company expects to open its 100th store in the fourth quarter and plans to end the year operating 102 stores. Gabriel Brothers stores typically range in size from 47,000 sq.ft. to 55,000 sq.ft. The company is seeking sites for Gabriel Brothers in KY, MD, OH, PA, VA and WV. Rugged Wearhouse stores range in size from 12,000 sq.ft. to 13,000 sq.ft. The company is seeking sites for Rugged Wearhouse throughout AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN and VA.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (336-726-8917) is planning to open 64 stores this year. The company currently operates 249 company and franchise stores nationwide. Within the next six years, Krispy Kreme plans to have a total of 750 stores nationwide and 60 in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Aldi (866-642-7978) is planning to open a store in Southaven, MS. The company currently operates 578 supermarkets throughout 21 states.

7-Eleven, Inc. (214-841-6766) is planning to open 2,500 stores worldwide, with most of the growth coming from outside the U.S. The company is planning to open approximately 2,000 stores in Asian countries and about 100 stores in the U.S.

Huddle House Restaurants (800-868-5700) opened a second Huddle House Restaurant in Blackstone, VA. The company also is planning to open a restaurant in Farmville, VA and expects to open 30 restaurants throughout VA during the coming six years.

Gander Mountain (952-830-8700) is planning to open stores in Rochester and Buffalo, NY and Geneva, IL this year. Those new stores will also introduce a larger-store format for the outdoor retailer. The new stores will range in size from 80,000 sq.ft. to 100,000 sq.ft. The stores also will include an expanded product line, including all-terrain vehicles. Overall, the company plans to open eight locations this year. The company currently operates 57 stores.

Mothers Work, Inc. (215-873-2220) is planning to open 100 stores this year. The company currently operates 935 maternity locations, including 785 stores and 150 leased departments, predominantly under the tradenames Motherhood Maternity, A Pea in the Pod and Mimi Maternity.

Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open a 225,000 sq.ft. store off Interstate 78 in northern Berks County, PA. The store will feature a 30-foot indoor mountain replica, more than 100 stuffed wild animals and a 55,000 gallon aquarium. Opening is slated for this Fall.

Academy Sports & Outdoors (877-999-9856) is planning to open a store at a former Kmart location at 5802 19th Street in Lubbock, TX. The company currently operates locations in Abilene and Amarillo, TX.

The Vitamin Shoppe (201-210-3005) opened a 3,500 sq.ft. store at the Aliso Viejo Town Center at 26831 Aliso Creek Road in Aliso Viejo, CA. The company is planning to aggressively expand in CA with 12 stores expected to open during the next three to six months.
