Who's opening & Where


U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) opened a 40,000 sq.ft. store in a former Kmart location in the Hamilton Meadows Shopping Center in Hamilton, OH. Overall, the company plans on opening five stores this year. Other locations include Wilmington, DE; McMinnville, TN and Chambersburg, PA.

Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) is planning to open 24 stores throughout 17 states by March 2004. Eight of the stores will occupy spaces of 45,000 sq.ft., while the other 16 will be smaller-format locations. The company currently operates 550 stores throughout 48 states.

Globe Restaurant Group, Inc. (917-622-0304) is planning to open a Goodfella’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta restaurant in Danbury, CT. The company currently operates 10 locations. Goodfella’s is slated to open seven stores this year, include a location in Puerto Rico.

Texas Roadhouse (800-839-7623) is planning to open a restaurant in Vestal, NY in late September or early October. The company currently operates more than 140 restaurants throughout 28 states.

Eyecare Centers of America (210-313-0827) opened a 3,000 sq.ft. Doctor’s VisionWorks store at Northlake Mall in Atlanta, GA. The company also is planning to open seven more stores this year, including locations at The Mall at Stonecrest, Cumberland Mall, Town Center at Cobb, Northpoint Mall, Southlake Mall, Perimeter Mall and Gwinnet Place Mall. The company currently operates 360 outlets under 11 tradenames throughout 32 states.

Too, Inc. (614-479-3500) is planning to open 20 stores during 2004 in strip and power centers. The company is rolling out a new concept focused on value-priced sportswear and accessories for girls ages seven to 14. The first new concept stores are scheduled to open in February 2004. Most of the 18 existing mishmash stores will be converted to new concept stores.

Publix Super Markets, Inc. (863-688-1188) is planning to open a Wine & Spirits store in Kissimmee, FL. The company currently operates a Wine & Spirits location in Miami, FL. The new store will be adjacent to a Publix supermarket at the intersection of Poinciana Place and Vineland Road. Overall, the company operates 756 stores throughout AL, FL, GA, SC and TN.

Chicos FAS, Inc. (239-277-6200) is planning to open a minimum of approximately 70 to 75 stores this year. The company currently operates 400 Chico’s and Chico’s Outlet stores throughout 41 states and Washington, DC.

Apple Computer, Inc. (408-996-1010) is planning to open a store at 679 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago, IL. Overall, the company is planning to open 20 stores next year. The company recently debuted its online iTunes Music Store, which has led to an increase in customer traffic at its retail shops.

Elizabeth Arden, Inc. (305-818-8000) opened a warehouse outlet store in Citrus Heights, CA. The store offers fragrances, skin-care products and cosmetics at an average of 55% to 60% off retail. The new store, in Greenback Square at Greenback Lane near Arcadia Drive, occupies a space of 2,800 sq.ft. The company currently operates eight warehouse outlet stores throughout four states. The stores are typically 5,000 sq.ft., with 3,200 sq.ft. of selling space.

Whole Foods Markets (303-440-5220) is planning to open a 37,000 sq.ft. store in Sacramento, CA. The store will be located at the intersection of Arden Way and Eastern Avenue in Arden Plaza and will be the company’s 17th store in northern CA. Overall, the company operates 140 stores.

Fox Sports Grill (805-497-2508) opened a store at the Irvine Spectrum Center located at 31 Fortune Drive in Irvine, CA. The restaurant was founded by FOX Sports and B&B Restaurant Ventures and debuted in Scottsdale, AZ last Fall. The company also is planning to open more locations throughout the coming years.

ShopKo Stores, Inc. (920-429-2211) is planning to begin opening stores more than a year after shelving expansion plans to pay down its debt. The company is planning to open stores next year in regions where it already operates. ShopKo will begin expansion by opening stores in Neenah and Ashwaubenon, WI. Both stores are slated to open during the Fall. The company currently operates 140 stores throughout 15 Midwestern, Western and Pacific Northwest states. The company also owns Pamida Holdings, which operates 225 small-town discount stores.

Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a 100,000 sq.ft. store in Pear Tree Center in Ukiah, CA. The site was formerly occupied by Kmart. The company currently operates 1,532 stores throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The center is currently occupied by Albertsons, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Ross, a jewelry store and restaurants.

CVS Corp. (401-765-1500) is planning to begin opening stores throughout the Minneapolis, MN area during the first half of 2004. The company currently operates 4,100 stores throughout 32 states and Washington, DC.

Sonic Corp. (405-280-7654) is planning to open a drive-in restaurant at the intersection of George Washington Memorial Highway and Fort Eustis Boulevard in Yorktown, VA. The company currently owns and franchises more than 2,500 restaurants throughout 30 states, primarily in the south.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a 140,000 sq.ft. store at Park Place Center located at the intersection of Rand and Dundee Roads in Palatine, IL. Opening is slated for Spring 2004. The company currently operates 4,700 stores throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America, Asia and Europe.

Grocery Outlet, Inc. (510-845-1999) opened a 22,000 sq.ft. store in Yakima, WA. The store will be located near Home Depot. The company also is planning to open stores in Las Vegas, NV and The Dalles, OR. Grocery Outlet currently operates 118 stores throughout AZ, CA, HI, ID, NV, OR, UT and WA and is seeking acquisition, development or lease opportunities throughout its existing markets.
