New Construction Regency Centers acquired a 14-acre site in Gainesville, VA and designated it the future site of a neighborhood shopping center. The site is located at the intersection of State Route 29 and Somerset Boulevard. The company is planning to develop a 120,000 sq.ft. center, including a 67,400 sq.ft. Shoppers Food Warehouse. The center, which will be named Somerset Crossing, is slated for an October opening. Equity Real Estate is developing Capella Centre located at the intersection of Polaris Parkway and Sancus Boulevard in Columbus, OH. The 82,000 sq.ft. center will be located on a land area of 11 acres and is slated for completion during the Spring. Committed retailers for the site include La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, International Diamond & Gold, Atlanta Bread Co. and House of Japan Restaurant. La-Z-Boy built a new, freestanding prototype store, while International Diamond & Gold plans to construct a flagship store that houses its corporate headquarters. Jim Wilson & Associates is developing Carriage Crossing, an open-air shopping center in Collierville, TN. Plans call for construction to begin this Summer with opening slated for Fall 2004. The project will be built on 85 acres at the intersection of Bill Morris Parkway and Houston Levee Road. The 810,832 sq.ft. center will have three anchor stores and six multi-tenant buildings. The developer also is proposing to build eight ourparcels along the west and northwest borders of the center. Echo Real Estate Services is planning to develop a center that will be anchored by a 107,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart at Resort Plaza near Blairsville, PA. The company also is proposing to develop six individually-owned satellite shops. The Wal*Mart will be a scaled-down version of the company’s Supercenter in White Township, but will include a grocery department. The Blairsville development comes less than two years after the opening of Wal*Mart’s Punxsutawney store and would give the retail giant three outlets in the immediate Indiana County area.
