Who's Opening & Where


Taco Del Mar (206-624-7060) is planning to open 10 locations throughout AZ by the end of this year. Additional deals have been completed for ID, MT, OR, UT and WY.
 

Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. (310-536-0611) is planning to open approximately 15 to 20 stores this year. The company currently operates 293 stores throughout 10 states.
 

Subway (203-877-4281) is planning to open a sub shop at the intersection of Carter and Cross Streets in Vidalia, LA.
 

Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open a 124,500 sq.ft. Target store at the Hawley Lane Mall located on Hawley Lane in Trumbull, CT during March 2005. The space was formerly occupied by Physicians Health Services office building. Cotenants include Kohl’s, HomeGoods, Dress Barn, Radio Shack, Payless ShoeSource, McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. Area demographics include a population of 243,000 within five miles earning $52,000 as the average household income. The company also is planning to open a store at South Bay Center, a 451,000 sq.ft. center located between Massachusetts Avenue, Allstate Road and Southhampton Street in Boston, MA. The full-service Target will include a pharmacy and a Starbucks Cafe. Target Corp. currently operates 1,249 stores throughout 47 states.
 

Old Navy (800-653-6289) is planning to open a store at The Shops of Grand Avenue in Milwaukee, WI during the summer.
 

Forever 21 (800-966-1355) is planning to open a three-story, 27,500 sq.ft. flagship store near Union Square at the intersection of Powell and Market Streets in downtown San Francisco, CA. The store will be about four to five times bigger than its mall locations.

 

Belk, Inc. (704-357-1000) is planning to open a 66,000 sq.ft. Belk’s fashion department store at Branson Landing, a center located in Branson, MO. The store will offer apparel, accessories, shoes, cosmetics and home merchandise, including the company’s exclusive Belk private brands. The store also will offer services such as gift registry, gift-wrapping and alterations. Overall, Belk plans to open 14 stores, complete four store expansions and six major store remodeling projects this year. Ten of the stores are in new markets, including Waco, Kerrville, Sherman and McKinney, TX; Mandeville, LA; Sevierville, TN; Marietta, GA; Viera and Clermont, FL and Auburn, AL. Four stores are in existing markets, including locations in Beaufort and Myrtle Beach, SC; Lenoir, NC and Cumming, GA. The company currently operates 225 stores throughout 14 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, including AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, MS, NC, SC, TN, TX, VA and WV.

 

Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1100) is planning to open Borders Books & Music stores throughout WA during August. A 25,000 sq.ft. store will open at the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood  and an 18,767 sq.ft. store is scheduled to open at Mill Plains Shopping Center located the intersection of 164th Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver. Borders currently operates nine stores throughout WA.

Figaro’s Italian Pizza, Inc. (503-371-9318) is planning to open 161 restaurants throughout AZ during the coming 10 years, bringing the company’s nationwide total to more than 1,000 locations. The company also is planning to open 75 stores throughout UT during the coming 10 years.

 

Galyan’s Trading Co. (317-612-2000) is planning to open eight sporting goods stores this year. Over the past three years, Galyan’s has doubled its store base by opening 24 stores.

 

Captain D’s Seafood (615-391-5461) completed seven new franchise agreements. Serve Holdings will develop 15 stores and take control of 20 company-owned restaurants in Memphis, TN; Nautical Treasures will build eight stores in Toledo, OH; Seahorse Group will open three stores in Atlanta, GA; Popeyes franchisee David Chunn will open four stores in Hattiesburg, MS; Subway franchisee Ashraf Boulos expects to open the company’s first two TX locations, while one store will open in Dahlonega, GA.

 

Hannaford Bros. Co. (207-883-2911) is planning to open a supermarket at a space formerly occupied by an Ames discount department store at the intersection of Route 6 and Stoneleigh Avenue in Putnam County, NY. Opening is slated for next year. The company currently operates 122 supermarkets and food-and-drug combination stores throughout MA, ME, NH, NY and VT. This store will be the southernmost location of the 34 NY stores. Hannaford is planning to renovate the 65,000 sq.ft. store into its upscale food market specializing in organic produce and choice perishable foods, such as freshly butchered meats and varieties of fish and seafood. There will be a pharmacy department.

 

Max & Erma’s Restaurants, Inc. (614-431-5800) is planning to open four company-owned restaurants during the remainder of this year. Franchisees are also expected to open an additional five restaurants this year. The company currently operates 75 casual dining full-service restaurants in Akron, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Niles and Toledo, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Lansing, MI; Pittsburgh and Erie, PA; Lexington and Louisville, KY; Chicago, IL; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA and Virginia Beach and Norfolk, VA. The company also currently franchises 18 restaurants in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Wilmington, Sandusky and Dayton, OH; St. Louis, MO; Green Bay, WI; Philadelphia, PA and Edinburgh and Evansville, IN. Franchised restaurants are currently under construction in Chillicothe, OH and Seymour, IN.
