Who's Opening & Where


La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open 40 La-Z-Boy New Generation Furniture Galleries stores during the current fiscal year, with over 20 being new stores and the remainder being store remodels or relocations. The company currently operates 324 freestanding La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries and 337 La-Z-Boy In-Store Galleries.

 

The Steak n Shake Co. (317-633-4100) is planning to open 18 to 24 company-owned restaurants throughout fiscal year 2005. The company currently operates 425 Steak n Shake restaurants throughout 19 states, including 365 company-owned restaurants and 60 franchised units.

 

Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc. (508-313-4000) is planning to open a 63,000 sq.ft. Shaw’s Supermarket in Carver, MA. Opening is slated for the Spring. The company currently operates approximately 200 stores under the Shaw’s and Star Markets banners throughout CT, MA, ME, NH, RI and VT.

 

Brinker International (972-980-9917) is planning to open 20 Chili’s restaurants throughout AL and MS. In Mississippi, the company is opening restaurants throughout 19 smaller markets and non-metro cities and towns throughout the state. The company currently operates 1,000 Chili’s Grill & Bar locations throughout 24 countries. Brinker International also operates restaurants under the following tradenames: Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Maggiano’s Little Italy, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, Big Bowl Asian Kitchen, Corner Bakery Café and Rockfish Seafood Grill.

 

Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open a 125,000 sq.ft. Target store at the Hawley Lane Plaza located on Hawley Lane in Trumbull, CT. The center is cotenanted by Kohl’s, HomeGoods, Dress Barn, Radio Shack, Payless ShoeSource and Dunkin’ Donuts. The company also is planning to open SuperTarget locations in Roseville and West St. Paul, MN during October 2005. Both stores will be built on existing Target sites. The stores will each include a pharmacy, optical center, one-hour photo center and Starbucks.

 

Red Robin Gourmet Hamburgers (303-846-6000) is planning to open a Red Robin restaurant at The Shops at Centerra located in Loveland, CO. The company currently operates approximately 245 casual-dining restaurants throughout 27 states and Canada that specialize in high-end hamburgers. The company owns about half of its locations and franchises the rest.

 

Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (952-593-9943) is planning to incorporate a new restaurant design into all of the company’s restaurants next year. The company currently operates more than 294 Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants throughout 30 states specializing in Buffalo-style chicken wings, as well as appetizers, burgers, salads, and desserts. The company owns and operates more than 75 of the restaurants, while the rest are operated by franchisees.

 

Texas Roadhouse, Inc. (502-426-9984) is planning to open a Texas Roadhouse restaurant at the Glenbrook Shopping Center in Hendersonville, TN during this month. Texas Roadhouse has a Southwestern theme and offers a menu of hand-cut steaks, ribs, chicken and seafood. The company currently operates more than 160 company-owned and franchised locations throughout more than 30 states. Texas Roadhouse operates TN locations in Alcoa, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg, Johnson City, Kingsport, Knoxville and Sevierville, while further locations are being planned for middle TN.

 

Muvico Theatres (954-564-6550) is planning to open a 3,800-seat, 78,000 sq.ft. movie theater at the Boynton Beach Mall in Boynton Beach, FL. Opening is slated for early 2006. The theater will be a separate building. The theater will offer stadium seating, valet parking and child care facilities. The space was formerly occupied by Macy’s.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open 15 Wal*Mart stores throughout China next year. The company currently operates 40 locations throughout major cities like Beijing and Shenzhen, but will focus its expansion on smaller provincial cities. Overall, Wal*Mart Stores operates 5,500 stores throughout 10 countries. The company also is planning to open a 138,000 sq.ft. Sam’s Club at Seven Oaks Plaza, a 278,000 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of State Route 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in Wesley Chapel, FL. Nearly 75% of its stores are in the U.S., but Wal*Mart is expanding internationally and is the top retailer in Canada and Mexico. Wal*Mart also has operations in Europe and South America.

 

Tweeter Home Entertainment Corp. (781-830-3000) is planning to open a new concept store in Las Vegas, NV next year. The prototype will offer an “experience map,” where customers will be able to navigate through display and demonstration areas, an in-store area for mobile multimedia and portable products, and rooms for home theater and audio demonstrations. The company currently operates 175 stores nationwide.

 

Jack-In-The Box (858-571-2121) is planning to open its first JBX stores throughout Boise, ID and Bakersfield, CA. The concept includes a new building design with different colors, modern architecture and a landscaped outdoor dining area. The interior features a dining room with distinctive textures, original artwork and furnishings.

 

Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (908-688-0888) is planning to open a 30,000 sq.ft. Bed Bath & Beyond store at the Great South Bay Shopping Center, a 500,000 sq.ft. center located on Route 27A in West Babylon, NY. Opening is slated for next year. The space was formerly occupied by Sweezy’s Department store. Cotenants at the center include Marshalls, Old Navy, JoAnn Fabrics, Ann Taylor Loft, Bath & Body Works and The Children’s Place. Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. currently operates more than 600 stores nationwide, which range in size from 30,000 sq.ft. to 50,000 sq.ft.

 

The Krystal Co. (423-757-1550) is planning to open a Krystal hamburger restaurant at the intersection of Interstate 35 and Williams Road in Georgetown, TX next year. Overall, the company is looking to open 18 restaurants throughout TX, including locations throughout Dallas and Houston. Currently, the company operates Krystal restaurants in Beaumont and Killeen, TX. The company’s chain of more than 430 restaurants in almost a dozen southern states are known for their petite, square hamburgers. In addition, Krystal’s menu includes chicken sandwiches, chili, corn dogs, breakfast sandwiches and dessert items. Krystal also sells its burgers through several grocery chains. The company owns and operates nearly 250 of its locations; the rest are franchised.

 

Qdoba Restaurant Corp. (303-629-5000) is planning to open a Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurant at the intersection of Franklin and Columbia Streets in Chapel Hill, NC. The company currently operates approximately 150 restaurants nationwide.

 

Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc. (314-423-8000) is planning to open 13 Build-A-Bear locations this year and 25 to 30 during 2005. The company currently operates 162 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada and hopes to grow to 350 stores. The company also is planning to open Friends 2B Made stores, which allow customers to make their own dolls.
