Who's Opening & Where Pizza Patron (972-613-8000) is planning to open 25 locations throughout AZ. The company is looking to roll out the brand in Phoenix, then eventually have 45 units throughout the state.
Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open a Costco Wholesale at the intersection of Andresen Road and Padden Parkway in Vancouver, WA. The company currently operates 423 stores nationwide. Overall, the company expects to open 30 locations this year, with 18 stores being fill-ins.
Rare Hospitality International, Inc. (770-399-9595) is planning to open approximately 24 LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants, three to four Bugaboo Creek Steak House restaurants and as many as three The Capital Grille locations during fiscal 2004. The company currently owns, operates and franchises 239 restaurants, including 194 LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants, 26 Bugaboo Creek Steak House restaurants and 17 The Capital Grille locations.
Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is looking to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter at a site formerly occupied by Eastwood Mall in Birmingham, AL. The development would serve as the relocation of an existing Sam’s Club and Wal*Mart discount store in Irondale, AL.
The May Department Stores, Inc. (314-342-6300) is planning to open nine department stores this year. The company currently operates 444 department stores, 210 David’s Bridal stores, 460 After Hours Formalwear stores and 10 Priscilla of Boston stores throughout 46 states.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers (303-846-6000) NJ-based franchise partner UBA Enterprises plans to open five Red Robin locations throughout northern NJ during the coming five years, while The Colby Restaurant Group will open five locations in southern NJ and/or DE during the coming five years.
El Pollo Loco
(949-399-2000) is planning to open approximately 130 restaurants during the
coming five years, primarily through franchise growth. The initiative expects to
include the development of restaurants both within and outside and El Pollo
Loco’s core markets in the West, including the concept’s first major expansion
east of the Mississippi River. The company currently operates 314 restaurants,
including 136 company and 178 franchise-owned locations, throughout AZ, CA, NV
and TX. The company is focusing its expansion on the Chicago, IL areas of Cook
County, Will County, Kane County, DuPage County and downtown Chicago. Drexel Heritage (405-947-7433) opened a 16,000 sq.ft. store on South Central Avenue in Westchester County, NY. The store has a sleep shop, home accents rug gallery, a leather gallery and an extensive presentation of Drexel Heritage’s premium Lillian August collection. For its newest stores, the company is seeking sites with 18,000 sq.ft. to 19,000 sq.ft. of display space, topping out at about 21,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 40 locations. The company also is looking to open 15 stores this year, including locations in Dallas, TX; Atlanta, GA; Colorado Springs, CO and Burbank, CA.
Ace Hardware Corp. (630-990-6600) is planning to open approximately 80 Ace Hardware stores, totaling 1.6 million sq.ft., this year. The company currently operates more than 4,800 hardware stores nationwide and in 70 countries.
Ruby Tuesday (865-379-5700) is planning to open a 4,700 sq.ft. restaurant at the Stonebridge Business Park in York, PA. The plan is to build the restaurant near the Hampton Inn.
Palm Beach Tan, Inc. (972-931-6595) recently opened the following stores throughout Cincinnati, OH: 3768 Paxton Avenue at the Hyde Park Plaza; 4756 Fields-Ertel Road in Kings Mall and 6123 Glenway Avenue at Western Village. The company also is planning to open a store at Westchester Village, a center located on Princeton Glendale Road in Hamilton, OH. Up to three additional locations are set to open in the second half of this year.
JCPenney Co., Inc. (972-431-1000) is planning to open a 95,000 sq.ft. JCPenney department store at Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, AL. Construction begins this month, with completion slated for Spring 2005. JCPenney will be the fifth department store unit at the mall joining a lineup of Dillard’s, Sears, Parisian Women and Parisian Men & Children. The 800,000 sq.ft. mall also includes more than 85 specialty stores, a food court, The Ice Palace and Eastdale Cinemas 8. In addition, 30,000 sq.ft. of new retail shop space will be added to the mall. The new JCPenney will be designed in one of the company’s latest and most convenient formats, featuring wider aisles for shopping carts, improved lighting and new branding graphics.

(770-951-2040) is planning to open a restaurant along South College Street in
Auburn, AL during June. Area retail includes Country’s Barbecue and
Zaxby’s. The company currently operates seven locations throughout AL,
including two in Mobile and Birmingham and one apiece in Huntsville, Dothan and
Tuscaloosa, AL. Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open a 124,500 sq.ft. store at Hawley Lane Mall located in Trumbull, CT. Opening is slated for March 2005. Target will co-anchor with Kohl’s and HomeGoods, as well as 20 additional stores and restaurants, including Dress Barn, Radio Shack, Payless ShoeSource, McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. To accommodate the Target, a vacant office building will be demolished. Demographics include a trade-area population of 85,000 earning $59,000 as the average household income.
Loblaw Cos. Limited (416-922-2500) recently opened a new supercenter prototype in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The concept is larger than Loblaw’s existing food and general merchandise combination stores. The company also is offering dollar store sections in a deep-discount supermarket chain called No Frills. The company also recently opened a 115,000 sq.ft. store in Toronto, which includes about 40,000 sq.ft. of general merchandise products. The new Loblaw supercenter prototype includes a greater percentage of floor space dedicated to general merchandise. Food products will also have more room than in existing units.
Total Entertainment Restaurant Corp. (316-634-0505) opened a restaurant in Gilbert, AZ. The restaurant implements a new menu, which will include items like pizza and pasta products, as well as steak burgers, chicken wraps, salmon, pot roast, and ribs. The company also is planning to open the new concept in Wichita, KS this month. That site will include a new decor design and an upgraded video package enhanced for entertainment. The company currently operates 65 restaurants under the Fox and Hound and Bailey’s brand names.
L.A. Fitness (800-600-2540) is planning to open a 50,000 sq.ft. health club at the intersection of 2110 Broad Hollow Road and Route 110 in Farmingdale, NY. The fitness center will include five racquetball courts, a basketball court, childcare center, juice bar and a 3,551 sq.ft. aerobics room. This one-floor fitness club will have a sauna, lap pool, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a separate spinning room, along with 13,500 sq.ft. of cardio circuit facilities and a free-weight area that is 5,000 sq.ft. Opening is slated for the end of August.
Precision Tune Auto Care, Inc. (800-438-8863) is planning to open at least seven new centers throughout DE during the coming 10 years. The company also is planning to open more than 30 centers throughout the seven-county region in southeast MI by 2006.
Supercuts, Inc. (952-947-7777) signed a 15-year area development agreement for 35 franchised locations throughout PA and WV with franchisee Steven C. Breuner, who operates 26 locations throughout PA. The agreement calls for locations in Pittsburgh, Morgantown, Altoona, State College, Harrisburg, York, Allentown and Lancaster, PA.
