Who's Opening & Where Hooters of America, Inc. (770-951-2040) is planning to open a Hooters restaurant on Block E in Minneapolis, MN. Opening is slated for February or March. Hooters of America operates and franchises more than 350 Hooters restaurants throughout approximately 40 states and about 20 other countries. The beach-themed bar-and-grills cater to sports fans and are known for their spicy chicken wings as well as their hostesses, who dress in the chain’s trademark bright orange short shorts and tight T-shirts. Hooters also serves chili, sandwiches and beer. The company operates 118 locations and franchises the rest.
Papa John’s International, Inc. (502-261-7272) is planning to open approximately 20 corporate-owned Papa John’s locations throughout the Philadelphia, PA area. The company currently operates more than 3,000 pizzerias across the U.S. and in 17 international markets. Its restaurants offer many pizza styles and topping choices, as well as a few specialty pies such as The Works and All the Meats. Papa John’s locations typically offer delivery and carryout service only. In addition to its signature brand, the company also franchises about 120 Perfect Pizza restaurants in the United Kingdom. Papa John’s owns and operates about 20% of its locations.
The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a Home Depot store at the Village at Sandhill, a center located in Columbia, SC. The company currently operates approximately 1,940 stores throughout 50 U.S. states, Washington, DC, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. It targets the do-it-yourself and professional markets with a broad product assortment, up to 50,000 items, including lumber, floor and wall coverings, plumbing, gardening supplies, tools, paint, and even appliances. It’s the largest seller of garden products in North America and also runs more than 50 EXPO Design Center stores, which are showrooms featuring bath, kitchen, and lighting products.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Two Notch Road in northeast Richland, SC. Opening is slated for the third quarter of 2006. Overall, the company is looking to open as many as 150 stores by the end of next year. Lowe’s currently operates more than 1,150 home improvement stores throughout the U.S. The company’s stores sell more than 40,000 products for do-it-yourselfers and professionals for home improvement and repair projects, such as gardening products, home fashion items, lumber, millwork, plumbing and electrical supplies, and tools, as well as appliances and furniture.
Dillard’s, Inc. (501-376-5200) is planning to open a 155,000 sq.ft. Dillard’s store at Hill Country Galleria, a proposed 1.4 million sq.ft. mall located in Austin, TX. The Dillard’s store will be approximately 50,000 sq.ft. smaller than the company’s mall stores, which is typical for the growing number of Dillard’s locations opening in outdoor shopping centers. The upscale department store chain operates about 330 locations throughout 29 states, covering the Sunbelt and the central U.S. Its stores cater to middle- and upper-middle-income women, selling namebrand and private-label merchandise with a focus on apparel and home furnishings. Women’s and juniors’ apparel accounts for nearly a third of sales. Hill Country Galleria is slated to open during early summer 2007 and will be cotenanted by Barnes & Noble and include 300 apartments and 50 townhouse-style condominiums.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (310-237-2379) is planning to open more locations during 2006. The stores occupy spaces of 1,200 sq.ft. to 1,500 sq.ft. in endcaps, freestanding locations and corner sites with drive-thrus. The company also requires that its sites have patio seating. The company currently operates approximately 165 locations nationwide and 190 locations internationally.
Bass Pro Shops, Inc. (417-873-5000) is planning to open a Bass Pro Shops store at the Rim Shopping Center located on the east side of Interstate 10, north of Loop 1604, in San Antonio, TX. The company currently operates 25 locations throughout 17 states. The stores typically occupy spaces of 280,000 sq.ft. Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8038) is planning to open a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Arden, CA area next year. Chick-fil-A operates approximately 1,200 restaurants and serves chicken entrees, sandwiches, and salads, along with waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The chain is made up primarily of mall-based stores, but it also includes freestanding locations that offer drive-thru service as well as dine-in seating. Chick-fil-A also licenses its concept to foodservice operators for high-traffic areas, such as schools and airports.
Christopher & Banks Corp. (763-551-5000) is planning to open Acorn, a women’s fashion store designed for women sizes four to 16 at Shoppes at College Hills, a 450,000 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of Veterans Parkway, Towanda Drive and College Avenue in Normal, IL. The center is anchored by Von Maur, Target, Hobby Lobby and Gordman’s. Acorn caters to professional women aged 40 to 60 and differentiates itself from other women’s apparel stores by offering merchandise that is characterized by novelty designs, many featuring seasonal themes. Acorn operates 21 stores throughout nine states, including six in OH, three in IL and GA, two in SC and VA and one each in IN, MI, MN and NC. Christopher & Banks Corp. sells moderately priced private-label women’s fashions at approximately 650 stores throughout 45 states and operates as Christopher & Banks, C.J. Banks, and newly acquired Acorn shops.
