Who's Opening & Where Logan’s Roadhouse, Inc. (615-885-9056) is planning to open a Logan’s Roadhouse restaurant on Centre Drive in Beavercreek, OH. Area retail includes Fairfield Commons. Opening is slated for March 2006. Logan’s Roadhouse operates and franchises approximately 135 casual-dining steakhouses throughout 18 states, mostly in the Southeast and southern Midwest. Designed to resemble roadhouses from the 1930s to the 1950s, the restaurants’ exteriors are highlighted with rough-hewn cedar siding, corrugated metal, and neon. Inside, patrons listen to Wurlitzer jukeboxes and eat peanuts. About 115 locations are company-owned, while the rest are run by franchisees. Logan’s is a subsidiary of CBRL Group, which also owns the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurant chain.
Robeks (310-727-0500) is planning to open locations nationwide this year. The company is looking to open locations in 30 metropolitan areas throughout the U.S.
Belk, Inc. (704-357-1000) is planning to open a 58,000 sq.ft. Belk’s department store at Lakeview Pointe, a center located on a land area of 36 acres at the intersection of State Highway 177 and Lakeview Road in Stillwater, OK. Opening is slated for 2006. The company currently operates 228 stores throughout 14 southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. Overall, the company plans on opening 12 stores this year, including five store expansions and two major remodelings. The stores offer mid-priced brand-name and private-label apparel, shoes, cosmetics, gifts and home furnishings. Its stores usually anchor malls or shopping centers in small to medium-sized markets.
Publix Super Markets, Inc. (863-688-1188) is planning to open a GreenWise supermarket at Legacy Place, a 469,000 sq.ft. mixed-use center located at the intersection of PGA Boulevard and A1A in St. Petersburg, FL. The format will feature natural food items and expanded offerings in the health and wellness categories. The center will be co-anchored by Best Buy, Linens ‘n Things, Barnes & Noble, Loehmann’s, Arhaus, Ethan Allen, Total Wine and Michael’s. Cotenants include Pier 1 Imports, Chili’s and T.G.I. Friday’s. The company currently operates approximately 850 stores, with most locations throughout FL. The company also operates supermarkets in AL, GA, SC and TN. Publix makes some of its own bakery, deli, and dairy goods, and many stores offer flowers, housewares, pharmacies, and banks. The company also operates five “Pix” convenience stores throughout FL.
Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8038) is planning to open as many as 77 Chick-fil-A locations this year, including 60 freestanding restaurants nationwide. The company currently operates approximately 1,200 restaurants nationwide. Chick-fil-A serves chicken entrees, sandwiches and salads, along with waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The chain is made up primarily of mall-based stores, but it also includes freestanding units that offer drive-thru service as well as dine-in seating. Chick-fil-A also licenses its concept to foodservice operators for high-traffic areas, such as schools and airports.
IHOP Corp. (818-240-6055) is planning to open IHOP restaurants throughout Charlotte, NC and Nashville, TN through franchisees. IHOP operates the International House of Pancakes restaurant chain with nearly 2,000 owned and franchised restaurants, which are open 24 hours a day. The restaurants are best known for their pancakes, waffles and French toast. It also offers standard family fare for lunch and dinner. Its restaurants are generally freestanding locations. More than 95% of IHOP’s locations are operated by franchisees and area licensees.
DSW, Inc. (614-237-7100) is planning to open a Designer Shoe Warehouse store located at Virginia Gateway Center located at the intersection of Route 29 and Interstate 66 in Gainesville, VA. The center is currently tenanted by Giant Foods, Super Target, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Pier 1 Imports. The company sells discounted brand-name footwear for men and women through more than 170 stores in 32 states. About a half dozen stores carry footwear for kids. In addition to more than 2,000 styles of dress, casual, and athletic shoes, the stores offer handbags, hosiery, and accessories. The company plans to open approximately 30 stores every year through 2009. DSW also operates more than 200 leased shoe departments for unaffiliated retailers.
Ruddick Corp. (704-372-5404) is planning to open 10 Harris Teeter stores this year and complete remodels on 12 existing stores during the remainder of fiscal 2005. Through subsidiary Harris Teeter, the company operates nearly 140 supermarkets throughout six southeastern states, mostly in NC. Most of the markets feature niceties such as sushi bars, gourmet delis and cafes.
Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) and Lowe’s Cos. (704-758-1000) are planning to open 140,000 sq.ft. stores at Old Brownsboro Crossing, a 114-acre commercial, office and medical complex being developed at the intersection of Kentucky 22 and Interstate 71 in Louisville, KY. The retailers will join tenants Norton Healthcare and Fifth Third Bank. Costco currently operates approximately 452 membership warehouse stores throughout 36 states and Puerto Rico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, primarily under the Costco Wholesale name. Stores offer discount prices on 4,000 products, ranging from alcoholic beverages and appliances to fresh food, pharmaceuticals and tires. Certain club memberships also offer products and services such as car and home insurance, mortgage and real estate services and travel packages. Lowe’s Cos., Inc. currently operates approximately 1,100 superstores throughout 48 states. The company’s stores sell more than 40,000 products for home improvement and repair projects, such as gardening products, home fashion items, lumber, millwork, plumbing and electrical supplies and tools, as well as appliances and furniture.
Wild Oats Markets, Inc. (303-440-5220) is planning to open a 32,000 sq.ft. Wild Oats Natural Marketplace store at Bridgeport Village, a center located in Tualatin, OR. The company currently operates approximately 110 full-service stores throughout 24 states and British Columbia, Canada. Its stores provide natural, organic, and traditional grocery items, as well as environmentally-friendly household products. The stores operate under the Capers Community Market, Henry’s Farmers Markets, Sun Harvest Farms and the Wild Oats Natural Marketplace names. It also has bakeries, coffee and juice bars, and massage therapists in most stores.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) is planning to open a 210,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter store in Bellevue, TN. Opening is slated for late 2006. The company currently operates more than 5,200 stores, including about 1,350 Wal*Mart stores, nearly 2,000 Wal*Mart Supercenter locations and 550 Sam’s Club stores. Nearly 75% of its stores are in the U.S., but Wal*Mart is expanding internationally; it is the top retailer throughout Canada and Mexico.
