Who's Opening & Where


Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) is planning to open a Barnes & Noble store at the Colonie Center Mall located in Colonie, NY. Opening is slated for April 2007. Barnes & Noble currently operates approximately 824 Barnes & Noble superstores throughout 50 states and Washington, DC.

 

McAlister’s Deli (888-855-3354) is planning to open as many as 15 restaurants throughout Tarrant County, TX. The company currently operates more than 200 locations, which feature deli-style menu items with more than 90 choices of sandwiches, wraps, soups, spuds, salads and desserts.

 

Hannaford Bros. Co. (207-883-2911) is planning to open a Hannaford Bros. supermarket in Lowell, MA. It would be the company’s second store in Lowell and its 26th in MA. The company also is looking to open a 36,000 sq.ft. Hannaford Bros. supermarket in Buxton, ME. The store would feature a pharmacy, a natural and organic food department, a full-service butcher shop, produce and seafood departments, a bakery and a deli. Hannaford Bros. operates approximately 147 stores and food-and-drug combination stores, including 49 of them in ME and the rest in MA, NH, NY and VT. These stores operate under the Hannaford Supermarkets and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy names.

 

Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is looking to open a Cabela’s store in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The company expects to open a retail showroom as early as late fall of 2007 or spring of 2008. The large-format store, which will be located at Lac Mirabel, a 14 million sq.ft. mixed-use project, would be the company’s first store outside the U.S. The center also will include man-made lakes, a sports complex, a 100,000 sq.ft. Caldea Therapeutic Spa from Andorra in Europe, a 70,000 sq.ft. Kid Tropolis educational indoor city for children, a 140,000 sq.ft. Montreal Aquarium, hotel facilities, a conference center and additional entertainment and shopping. Cabela’s currently operates 14 locations throughout the U.S. and plans to open stores in Boise, ID; La Vista, NE; Gonzales, LA; Glendale, AZ; Richfield, WI and Hazelwood, MO this year; and in Reno, NV; Wheat Ridge, CO; East Rutherford, NJ; East Hartford, CT and Hoffman Estates, IL in 2007. The stores are as large as 250,000 sq.ft. and include such features as waterfalls, mountain replicas, aquariums and banquet and meeting facilities. Cabela’s sells footwear, clothing, and gear for fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor activities. The company also sells merchandise online.

 

PetsMart, Inc. (623-580-6100) is planning to open a 20,087 sq.ft. PetsMart store at Coastal Grand Myrtle Beach located on Pine Island Road in Myrtle Beach, SC. Opening is slated for June. The store will be the company’s 13th in SC. The company currently operates more than 791 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. The stores offer approximately 12,900 products, which range from scratching posts to iguana harnesses, and are sold under national brands and PetsMart’s own private labels. The retailer offers products through its PetsMart and State Line Tack (equine) web sites and through catalogs. Many stores offer in-store grooming and obedience training; veterinary services are available in some 430 shops through pet hospital operator, Medical Management International, known as Banfield.

 

McDonald’s Corp. (630-623-3000) is planning to open approximately 800 McDonald’s fast-food restaurants this year. The company currently operates more than 31,000 flagship restaurants serving burgers and fries in more than 100 countries. Almost 30% of its locations are company-owned; the others are run by franchisees. While most of the company’s eateries are freestanding units, it does have some quick-service kiosk units located in airports and retail areas.

 

Rooms To Go, Inc. (813-623-5400) is planning to open a 25,000 sq.ft.  Rooms To Go store at Coastal Grand Myrtle Beach located on Pine Island Road in Myrtle Beach, SC. Opening is slated for May. With the addition, the company will have 11 stores throughout the Carolinas. Rooms To Go operates approximately 100 stores throughout FL, GA, NC, SC, TN and TX. Rooms To Go also operates a Rooms to Go Kids chain with more than 20 stores throughout the Southeast, TX and Puerto Rico.

 

Deli Management, Inc. (409-838-1976) is planning to open more Jason’s Deli locations this year. The company currently operates 231 Jason’s Deli locations throughout 16 southeastern states, mostly in TX. The restaurants serve more than 90 varieties of sandwiches as well as soups, salads, baked potatoes and desserts. Many locations feature a salad bar and ice cream sundae bar and offer organic and trans-fat free items. Jason’s delivers, offers catering, and customers can place orders online.

 

OfficeMax, Inc. (630-438-7800) is planning to close 110 of its stores and will open 70 stores in key high-growth regions. This company currently operates approximately 950 superstores throughout the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The stores offer about 8,000 namebrand and OfficeMax-branded products, including paper, pens, forms, and organizers, as well as office furniture and a wide range of technology products.

 

Magic Restaurants, LLC (512-275-0400) is planning to open 16 company-owned and 40 to 50 franchised Fuddruckers hamburger restaurants this year. Beyond that, the company hopes to keep growth at 16 to 18 units per year, while expanding its franchise base by 80 to 100 units annually. Magic Restaurants operates and franchises approximately 250 fast-casual restaurants nationwide, mostly under the Fuddruckers banner, which specialize in large portioned, made-to-order hamburgers and hot dogs.

 

Morton’s Restaurant Group, Inc. (516-627-1515) is planning to open four to five Morton’s steakhouse restaurants this year, and from five to seven locations during the coming several years. Morton’s Restaurant Group operates approximately 70 Morton’s of Chicago locations in such cities as Atlantic City, NJ; Dallas, TX; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; and Chicago, IL.

 

Bakers Footwear Group, Inc. (314-621-0699) is planning to open 30 stores and remodel 25 locations this year. The mall-based vendor of women’s shoes and accessories operates approximately 220 stores throughout 36 states, with nearly 30 stores doing business under the Wild Pair banner. Bakers Footwear sells dress, casual, and sport shoes, as well as boots, sandals, and accessories, targeting women ages 12 to 29. Private labels account for the majority of company sales.

 

The Fresh Market, Inc. (336-272-1338) is planning to open a Fresh Market store at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, a center located in Upper Saucon Township, PA. Opening is slated for October. Fresh Market stores typically occupy spaces of 20,000 sq.ft. and the emphasis is on fresh food items. The stores also stock coffee, candy, bulk items and a limited selection of prepared foods, such as gourmet pizza and sushi. The company currently operates 56 full-service upscale specialty supermarkets throughout 12 U.S. states. Overall, the chain plans to open eight to 10 stores per year.

 

The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a Home Depot store at the Village at Sandhill, a center located in Columbia, SC. The company currently operates approximately 1,940 stores throughout 50 U.S. states, Washington, DC, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. It targets the do-it-yourself and professional markets with a broad product assortment, up to 50,000 items, including lumber, floor and wall coverings, plumbing, gardening supplies, tools, paint, and even appliances. It's the largest seller of garden products in North America and also runs more than 50 EXPO Design Center stores, which are showrooms featuring bath, kitchen, and lighting products.

 

Bass Pro Shops, Inc. (417-873-5000) is planning to open a Bass Pro Shops store at the Rim Shopping Center located on the east side of Interstate 10, north of Loop 1604, in San Antonio, TX. The company currently operates 25 locations throughout 17 states. The stores typically occupy spaces of 280,000 sq.ft. The cavernous outlets sell boats, campers, equipment, and apparel for most outdoor activities and offer features such as archery ranges, fish tanks, snack bars and video arcades.
