Who's Opening & Where Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Inc. (970-259-0054) is planning to open 40 to 45 Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory stores in fiscal year 2007. In the second quarter, the company opened nine new stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is an international franchiser of gourmet chocolates and confection stores and is a manufacturer of premium chocolates and other confectionary products. The company currently operates 308 stores in 39 states, Canada, Guam and the United Arab Emirates.
Muginoho, Inc. (212-382-4627) is planning to open six Beard Papa Sweets Café stores in CA and HI this year. Beard Papa makes cream puffs and has more than 230 stores in Japan with more stores opening worldwide in 15 countries. There are 18 stores in the U.S. with the most recent opening slated for The Promenade Shops at Dos Lagos in Corona, CA.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is planning to open two Lowe’s Home Improvement stores in MN next year. The stores are slated to open in Blaine in early Spring 2007 and in Rochester in late Summer 2007. Three more stores in MN are planned, with construction underway in Maple Grove, Rogers and Oak Park Heights. Most recently, the company opened its fifth store in MN, a 94,000 sq.ft. unit in Hibbing. On average, the company opens 150 stores annually and plans to branch out into Canada in 2007.
Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-4431) is planning to open 150 Office Depot stores in 2007 and 200 during 2008. The company opened 50 stores in the third quarter of 2006 and 76 year-to-date. Office Depot has 1,121 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
Family Sports Concepts, Inc. (813-226-2333) is planning to open a Beef O’Brady’s Family Sports Pub in mid-2007 at the intersection of Kings Highway and Interstate 75 in Port Charlotte, FL. Plans call for a freestanding restaurant. Beef O’Brady’s has 213 locations throughout the U.S.
Xanadoo, LLC (806-698-0621) is planning to expand further into TX. Xanadoo is a high-speed Internet service provider for Lubbock, Abilene and Wichita Falls, TX. Recently, the company opened stores in Abilene and Wichita Falls.
David Yurman (877-226-1400) is planning to open a jewelry store in Austin, TX during March 2007. The company also is looking to open stores in NY and other major U.S. cities. Currently, David Yurman stores are located in Bal Harbor, FL; Atlanta, GA; Manhattan, NY and Houston, TX. The company will open a 1,000 sq.ft. store in Beverly Hills, CA next month. Next year, the company will open its first international stores in Hong Kong and Tokyo, ranging from 1,000 sq.ft. to 2,000 sq.ft. The company also is considering opening stores in Bangkok, Taiwan and Seoul.
Fannie May Confections, Inc. (800-243-0246) is planning to open several Fannie May stores in IL this fall. One will be located at the Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, IL and one on North Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora, IL. In addition, the company is planning to open two more stores in downtown Chicago, at West Washington Boulevard this month and at South Dearborn Street next month. With the opening of the four stores, Fannie May will be operating 55 locations. The company also is underway with a 3,400 sq.ft. flagship store in downtown Chicago on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. The company is planning to open four to six stores annually. In April, 1-800-Flowers.com acquired Fannie May Confections, Inc., which sells candy, ice cream and ice cream bars. 1-800-Flowers.com also owns Plow & Hearth, which sells home, hearth, yard and garden gifts; HearthSong and Magic Cabin Dolls, which market gifts to children; the Popcorn Factory and GreatFood.com, which market food and other gourmet offerings; and Cheryl & Co., which markets cookies and desserts.
Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) is planning to open a 204,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter with a food section in Las Vegas, NV during the spring.
National Stores, Inc. (310-324-9962) will open a Fallas Paredes store at the Fox Plaza Shopping Plaza in El Paso, TX, replacing JCPenney’s former spot. Burger King and El Pollo will join Fallas Paredes as other stores that will open before the year’s end. The company operates Fallas Paredes stores throughout AZ, CA, NM, NV and TX.
Commerce Bancorp, Inc. (888-751-9000) is planning to open approximately 70 Commerce Bank locations in 2007, including the company’s first unit in Miami-Dade County, FL during the first quarter of next year. The new locations will increase the company’s total number of locations to 55. Commerce Bancorp, Inc. is looking to increase its store base by between 15% to 20% annually. The company currently has approximately 200 locations in various stages of land use approvals.
The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a Home Depot store at Rancho del Chino in Chino, CA. The location will consist of a 106,278 sq.ft. store plus a 34,760 sq.ft. garden center. The company plans to open the location in Fall 2007. The store is part of a $90 million, 450,000 sq.ft. retail development project at the intersection of Ramona Avenue and Chino Hills Parkway. Home Depot, Inc. signed a purchase and sale agreement for a land area of 9.2 acres. Groundbreaking is slated for December 2006. The company also is planning to open 57 stores in Mexico this year. The company operates more than 2,000 stores nationwide and throughout Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The company targets the do-it-yourself and professional markets with a broad product assortment.
Sonic Corp. (405-280-7654) is planning to open between 180 to 200 Sonic drive-in restaurants in fiscal year 2007, including approximately 150 to 160 by franchisees. The company has approximately 3,200 drive-ins in the U.S. and Mexico. Sonic restaurants serve burgers, malts and signature items, with carhops who deliver the made-to-order food to customer’s cars.
Landry’s Restaurants, Inc. (713-386-8013) is planning to open a T-Rex restaurant in Sparks, NV as part of the development of the Legends Project at Sparks Marina. T-rex first opened in Kansas City, KS in the summer. The company is looking to open another restaurant at Downtown Disney in Orlando, FL. Developed by the creator of the Rainforest Café, T-Rex incorporates dinosaurs into the restaurant motif. Landry’s Restaurants, Inc. acquired an 80% interest in the concept from Schussler Creative, Inc. RED Development, LLC is coordinating the Legends Project at Sparks Marina, having previously developed the Legends at Village West near the Kansas Speedway. The Scheels Retail Shopping Experience would be the centerpiece of the project and Scheels has slated a 2008 opening date. The retail center will be located on a land area of 100 acres and may also include a baseball stadium. In addition, Olympia Gaming has proposed building a $500 million, 1,000-room hotel-casino on the site. The project would include a 55,000 sq.ft. casino, five restaurants, a high-end spa, fitness center and salon, a private beach and swimming pool, a convention center and a lake front amphitheater and water show.
Showcolate Fondue Express (877-757-0944) will open eight Showcolate franchises, including one at the Stonebriar Mall in Frisco, TX. The company currently operates a kiosk in the Town East Mall in Mesquite, TX and a kiosk in the North Star Mall in San Antonio, TX. The company also operates locations throughout Brazil and Portugal. Showcolate franchises operate from their state-of-the-art kiosks, which feature chocolate-spinning wheels. This main feature displays a cascading flow of chocolate rotating on five spinning wheels behind a glass window. Visible dark, milk and white chocolates circulate as they are prepared for the fondue. Designed for malls, Showcolate has more than 100 locations worldwide that sell over 20 products.
W.S. Badcock Corp. (800-223-2625) opened a Badcock’s Home Now store in the Clearlake Square Plaza off Clearlake Road in Cocoa, FL. This is Badcock’s third rent-to-own operation, with another operating in Tampa, FL. The company plans to open more Home Now operations. W.S. Badcock Corp. currently operates 317 Home Furniture & More stores, including five in Brevard County, FL. About 85% of the company’s furniture stores are owned and operated by independent dealers.
Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-4000) is planning to open 30 to 35 Olive Garden restaurants in fiscal year 2007. The company developed two new prototypes for the restaurants to accelerate growth. Currently, 90 restaurants have been opened using the new prototypes. The company also plans to open additional Bahama Breeze restaurants in 2008 and additional Red Lobster restaurants at the end of fiscal year 2008 and early 2009. Olive Garden serves Italian food, Bahama Breeze offers Caribbean-style food and tropical drinks and Red Lobster specializes in seafood.
Extreme Pita (905-820-7887) will open its first urban restaurant this month in the heart of New York, NY. The Manhattan site is part of an aggressive expansion plan that will see the company double the number of locations it opens next year, including more restaurants in the Toronto area of Canada. Extreme Pita is a Canada-based fast-food chain. The company boasts more than 150 units throughout Canada and the U.S. Extreme Pita serves pita sandwiches, salads and pizza-style “flat-baked” pitas. Available ingredients include fresh vegetables, cheeses, meats and vegetarian options such as falafel and hummus.
lululemon athletica (877-263-9300) will team up with Descente Ltd. to help it set up 20 stores in Japan by 2010. The company is also planning to open more stores in Asia and Europe, and plans to open at least 200 stores nationwide over the next several years. lululemon athletica is a yoga inspired athletic apparel company. The company operates 40 plus stores throughout Canada, Japan, Australia and CA, CO, FL, IL, MA, NY, OR, WA and Washington, DC.
Staples, Inc. (508-253-5000) is planning to open a 22,590 sq.ft. Staples store at the Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke, VA. Opening is slated for early 2007. Staples is the number one office supply superstore operator in the U.S. It sells office products, furniture, computers and other supplies through its chain of more than 1,800 Staples and Staples Express stores in the U.S. and Canada and some 20 other countries. In addition to its retail outlets, Staples sells office products through the Internet and through its catalog and direct sales operations, including subsidiary Quill Corp. Staples also provides document management and copying services through its retail chain. The company targets small businesses and home office professionals, as well as consumers.
Forever 21, Inc. (213-741-5100) is planning to open a Forever 21 store in Gainesville, FL. The company operates about 390 mainly mall-based stores in the U.S. and Canada under the Forever 21, Forever XXI, and For Love 21 banners. The stores offer cheap and chic fashions and accessories for women and junior girls. Forever XXI stores are larger than classic Forever 21 shops and offer men’s and women’s fashions, as well as lingerie, footwear, cosmetic items, and other accessories.
Target Corp. (612-304-6073) will open a 135,000 sq.ft. Target store at the East River Plaza in New York, NY during 2008, which is also cotenanted by Home Depot. The nation’s number two discount chain now operates about 1,440 Target and SuperTarget stores in 47 states. Target and its cousins, including SuperTarget, which sells groceries, and Target Greatland, have carved out a niche by offering more upscale, fashion-forward merchandise. Target also owns apparel supplier The Associated Merchandising Corp. and issues Target Visa and its proprietary Target Card.
BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. (714-848-3747) will open about 13 BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse restaurants in 2007 as part of the company’s targeted growth of 20% to 25% in terms of restaurant expansion. The company most recently opened an 8,500 sq.ft. restaurant in Bakersfield, CA in October, which is the eighth opening for the company during 2006. The company has three units under construction as part of the company’s goal to open 11 locations this year. There are BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse locations in AZ, CA, CO, NV, OR and TX.
The TJX Cos. (508-390-3000) is planning to open a Marshalls store in Galveston, TX on Stewart Road. The company is negotiating to lease the 28,000 sq.ft. of a former Kmart. Marshalls will share the subdivided Kmart site with Ross Dress for Less. Marshalls operates more than 700 stores. Shoe Show, Inc. is also in negotiations to open Shoe Dept. store in a 6,000 sq.ft. space in the former Kmart. Shoe Show, Inc. has 991 stores carrying casual and dress shoes for kids and adults.
Bass Pro Shops, LP (413-873-5000) is planning to open an outdoor superstore in the Crossroads of America development located at the intersection of Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike in Wood County, OH. The store also may include an Islamorada Fish Co. restaurant. The company will spend about $50 million building the store, its second in OH. The chain specializes in fishing and hunting equipment, as well as equipment and clothing for hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, camping and outdoor cooking. The company also is planning a gift and nature center that will offer a variety of outdoor-related items, including lamps, dishes, bird feeders and furniture. Bass Pro Shops, LP currently has 58 locations open, announced or under construction in 23 states and Canada.
First Cash Financial Services, Inc. (817-460-3947) is planning to open 70 to 75 stores in 2007. In addition, the company plans to open three to five Auto Master buy-here/pay-here dealerships in 2006 and 2007. The company has opened 63 stores year-to-date, achieving its full-year target of 60 to 70 new store openings for 2006. As of September 2006, the company operated 398 units, an increase of 27% from the 313 units open September 2005. The company signed commitments with 13 franchisees, including three new ones. The restaurants will open in Phoenix, Tuscon, Rincon and Oro Valley, AZ; Simi Valley and Tustin, CA; Fort Pierce and Gainsville, FL; Vidalia, GA; Clinton, IA; Yorkville, IL; Sterling Heights, MI; New Albany and Patakskala, OH and Hill Country Village, TX. The Arby’s restaurant system consists of more than 3,500 restaurants worldwide, with 1,000 located in the U.S. The restaurants offer roast beef sandwiches and the company’s market fresh deli-style sandwiches, wraps and salads. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. (602-957-8986) is planning to open a Taneko Japanese Tavern in Scottsdale, AZ at the Borgata shopping center. The tavern is the company’s third restaurant concept and will offer the cuisine, service and atmosphere of traditional Japanese neighborhood pubs. The company’s other concepts include P.F. Chang’s and Pei Wei Asian Diner. Combined, the two concepts have 239 locations nationwide.
Best Buy, Inc. (612-291-1000) is planning to open a store in Miami, FL at Fifth & Alton, a three-level development in South Beach. Other tenants at the development are expected to include Staples and Publix. Best Buy sells electronics, personal computers, entertainment software and appliances.
Design Design, Inc. (616-774-2448) is planning to open a G. Williker’s store in Rockford, MI as part of the company’s plan to open 500 stores in the next 10 years. Design Design, Inc. produces and distributes greeting cards, gift wrap, paper, tableware, stationary and gifts, selling to 18,000 stores worldwide. Most of the company’s clients are independent card shops, but it also sells to Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. D&W Fresh Market, Hobby Lobby Creative Centers, Macy’s and Schuler Books and Music, Inc.
Luby’s, Inc. (713-329-6800) will open two restaurants in Houston and Port Arthur, TX during 2007. Luby’s, Inc. operates 128 locations throughout AR, AZ, LA, OK and TX. The restaurants offer home-style food in a cafeteria setting.
Coldwater Creek (208-265-7127) is planning to open 450 to 500 stores, with a goal of opening 65 units this year. The company also is planning to open a store at the Holyoke Mall in Holyoke, MA this month. The store is one of two opening this month and will bring the total number of stores in operation to 239. Coldwater Creek sells apparel for women in the 35 to 60 age bracket with an average household income of $75,000. |
