Save-A-Lot operates 1,150 locations nationwide.  The supermarkets, selling a limited assortment of discounted groceries and general items, occupy spaces of 10,000 sq.ft. to 16,500 sq.ft. in strip centers.  Plans call for 100 openings nationwide during the coming 18 months.  Typical leases run five years.  Preferred demographics include a population of 50,000 within three miles earning $35,000 as the average household income.  A land area of two acres is required.
