The openings will focus on the Soho, Midtown and Union Square neighborhoods of Manhattan. Supervalu (952-828-4000) is planning to open 25 supermarkets nationwide during the coming year. The company also plans to open 60 Save-a-Lot outlets. Cabela’s (308-254-5505) is planning to open store on Interstate 65 in Greenwood, IN during 2008. The company, offering a wide variety of hunting, fishing and outdoor products, currently operates 19 locations nationwide and plans to open an additional seven locations during the year. Tesco (310-384-3833) is planning to open 100 Fresh & Easy markets throughout the West Coast in the coming 18 months, with a focus on the Phoenix, AZ; San Diego and Los Angeles, CA and Las Vegas, NV metropolitan areas. The markets, focusing on ready-to-eat meals and environmentally friendly products, occupy spaces of 10,000 sq.ft. Kohl’s (262-703-7000) is planning to open 110 stores nationwide, including an entrance into ID and WY, during the coming year and a total of 350 openings by 2010. The off-mall retailer occupies spaces of 68,000 sq.ft. to 133,000 sq.ft. JCPenney (972-431-1000) is planning to open 250 stores nationwide during the coming five years. The mid-tier clothing retailer operates 1,033 locations nationwide and occupies spaces of 100,000 sq.ft. in malls, strip centers and freestanding locations. DSW, Inc. (614-237-7100) is planning to open 30 locations nationwide during the coming year. The company operates 232 shoe stores throughout 32 states. Ace Hardware (630-990-6600) is planning to open six locations throughout Phoenix, AZ during the year. The neighborhood hardware stores are scheduled to open in Surprise and Scottsdale in addition to a location on 35th Avenue and Southern Avenue in Goodyear. The company currently operates 50 stores within a 30-mile radius of Phoenix in addition to 5,000 locations nationwide and internationally. Famous Daves, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open four restaurants in AR through a franchisee, Famous Bar-B-Que, LLC. Famous Daves currently operates 40 locations and franchises 110 restaurants in 35 states. The restaurants offer barbequed and grilled meats, a selection of salads, side items, sandwiches and desserts. Famima Corp. (310-214-1001) opened its second store in Long Beach, CA during April. The chain of upscale convenience stores, featuring hardwood floors and gourmet prepared foods, operates 12 locations of approximately 27,000 sq.ft. in southern CA and 13,000 locations worldwide. The company plans to open 200 units during the coming two years. Sports Basement (800-869-6670) is planning to open a 54,000 sq.ft. location next month on Bryant Street in San Francisco, CA. The company is also opening a 40,000 sq.ft. store during September on Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek, CA. The company offers a variety of outdoor products, including biking, camping, hiking, ski/snowboard, swimwear and apparel items and currently operates three additional locations. Beaner’s Coffee (517-482-8145) is planning to open locations throughout Grosse Pointe Farms, Roseville and Royal Oak, MI. The gourmet coffee shops offer specialty drinks and feature fireplaces and overstuffed chairs, in addition to a drive-thru. The company currently operates 68 locations throughout AL, FL, GA, IL, IN, OH, SC and WI and plans to operate over 100 sites by the end of the year. By 2010, the chain expects to have 280 locations. Birks & Mayors, Inc. (954-590-9000) is planning to open two stores during 2008. Birks designs and manufactures fine jewelry, sterling and plated silverware and gifts and currently operates 38 locations in major metro markets throughout Canada. Mayors boutiques offer fine jewelry, timepieces, giftware and services and operates 29 locations throughout FL and GA. White House / Black Market (239-277-6200) is planning to open a store at the Fountain Shoppes at Park City Center in Lancaster County, PA during November. The center will feature 10 retailers, including Coldwater Creek and J.Jill, in addition to a restaurant. The women’s fashion retailer, specializing in white and black clothing, is a division of Chico’s Fas, Inc., currently operating 269 locations nationwide. |
