Yes! Organic Market (202-462-5150) is planning to open a 6,000 sq.ft. grocery store at The Flat at Union Row, an eight-story residential/retail project being developed at the intersection of 14th Street and V Street in Washington, DC. The store is slated to open during 2008 and will be followed by a location on Georgia Avenue in Washington, DC during 2009.

Gottschalks (559-434-4800) is planning to open three stores annually. New stores will average 55,000 sq.ft. compared with existing stores that total 85,000 sq.ft. Home-related items will be phased out of new stores
with only a limited housewares and gifts
mix offered.

Barnes & Noble (800-422-7717) is planning to open a 29,000 sq.ft. bookstore at The Shoppes at River Crossing in northern Bibb County, GA during September 2008. An existing store on Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard is scheduled to close, with the new location offering an additional 8,000 sq.ft. of space and a larger children’s department, café and a selection of books. The 750,000 sq.ft. retail and entertainment center is currently under construction, and will also feature a Dillard’s department store and a Bonefish Grill restaurant.

Fit Athletic Club (713-782-9348) is planning to open a 7,000 sq.ft. location at the Mosaic on Hermann Park, located at the intersection of Almeda Road and Hermann Park in Houston, TX. The upscale fitness center will feature cardiovascular and strength training equipment, private instruction and group classes. The Mosaic features two 30-story towers situated on the 400-acre Hermann Park and will feature approximately 800 residences, as well as 22,500 sq.ft. of retail space including restaurants.

Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (704-847-6961) is planning to open 300 stores during fiscal year 2008. During the last fiscal year, the company opened 300 stores and closed 43 locations. The company currently operates 6,400 stores in 44 states.

Best Buy Co., Inc. (612-291-1000) is planning to open a 30,000 sq.ft. anchor store at Newpark, an 820,000 sq.ft. mixed-use development located in Park City, UT. The project is located at the intersection on Interstate 80 and will consist of 95 townhouses; 90,000 sq.ft. of office space; a 135-room, four-star hotel and 151,000 sq.ft. of retail, as well as an additional 360 residential units and the Swaner Nature Preserve Center.

Emeril (504-524-4241) is planning to open a new concept, Table 10, at The Palazzo in Las Vegas, NV this coming January. Table 10 will be Chef Emeril Lagasse’s third restaurant in Las Vegas, joining Delmonico Steakhouse and Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House. Other Emeril restaurants include: Emeril’s, NOLA and Emeril’s Delmonico in New Orleans, LA; Emeril’s Orlando and Emeril’s Tchoup Chop in Orlando, FL; Emeril’s Atlanta in Atlanta, GA; Emeril’s Miami Beach in Miami, FL and Emeril’s Gulf Coast Fish House in Gulfport, MS.

Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) plans to open an 80,000 sq.ft. store in Billings, MT on South Billings Boulevard next summer that will anchor Billings Town Square. The store will sit on a land area of nine acres and feature a replica of a mountain with mounted trophy animals, a freshwater aquarium, a gun library and an atrium. The company currently operates 21 stores with plans to open five locations this year, including stores in Hartford, CT; Hammond, IN; Reno, NV; Lacey, WA and a 125,000 sq.ft. Cabela’s anchor store in Post Falls, ID next month.

Patagonia, Inc. (775-747-1887) is planning to open a 2,961 sq.ft. outdoor clothing store at Pearl Street Mall, located on Pearl Street in Boulder, CO next spring. The location will be the company’s second store in CO, joining its location in Denver. The store will offer Patagonia outdoor clothing, technical apparel, footwear and children’s clothing. The company currently operates 24 stores.

Puma North America, Inc. (978-698-1000) plans to open a Puma Store next spring at Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, AZ, as well as a store slated to open by the end of the year at Westgate City Center in Glendale, AZ.

Gene Juarez, LLC (425-748-1400) is planning to open an 8,500 sq.ft. salon and spa location at University Village, located in Seattle, WA, next summer, as well as opening two additional units during 2009. In the Puget Sound region, the company operates nine salons.

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to have 1,400 stores in operation by 2012, which includes 471 openings during the next five years. The company opened 80 stores last month and plans to open 15 this month, which will bring the total number of stores in operation to 929. Most of the new stores will be built according to the company’s 88,000 sq.ft. prototype, while a quarter of the openings will either be smaller or occupy 130,000 sq.ft.

Borders, Inc. (734-477-1100) plans to open a 22,000 sq.ft. store during February 2008 at Towne Square, located at the intersection of Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 on Las Vegas Boulevard in Las Vegas, NV.

Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (540-362-4911) is planning to open 150 to 200 stores annually and is eyeing additional locations in Lake County, IL and throughout the Chicago market. The company recently opened stores in Waukegan and Wauconda and currently operates 3,187 stores in 40 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Hudson’s Bay Company (416-861-6112) is planning to open 33 Fields stores throughout Ontario, Canada by the end of 2008. The company recently opened four stores in Valemont, British Columbia; Two Hills, Alberta; Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan and Killarney, Manitoba. The openings bring its store count to 150 across Canada. Fields is the company’s discount retail format selling general merchandise featuring low price points. The company has opened 53 stores during the past 30 months. The company trades as The Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters, Designer Depot and Fields at 580 locations throughout Canada.

Spicy Pickle (303-297-1902) is planning to open 12 units by the end of the year. Recently, the company opened two stores in CO, on Broadway in Boulder and on Thompson Parkway in Johnstown. The company has also signed nearly 50 franchise agreements and currently operates 28 restaurants in nine states. The fast-casual restaurants offer panini and sub sandwiches.

Nordstrom, Inc. (206-628-2111) is planning to open a 38,000 sq.ft. Nordstrom Rack during fall 2008 at Springbrook Prairie Pavilion, a 270,000 sq.ft. shopping center located in Naperville, IL. The stores offer apparel, accessories and items for the home and family at off prices. This will be the company’s fifth Rack store in the Chicago, IL area, including locations at Woodfield Village Green in Schaumburg, Village Square in Northbrook, The Shops at Oakbrook Place in Oakbrook and The Shops at State and Washington in Chicago. The company also operates four full-line Nordstrom stores in IL at Oakbrook Center in Oakbrook, Old Orchard Center in Skokie, Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg and on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Nationwide, the company operates 160 stores in 28 states, including 100 Nordstrom locations, 51 Rack stores, four Faconnable boutiques, two Jeffrey boutiques, a freestanding shoe store and two clearance stores.
